What are cookies?
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which ones Bitsaga uses, what they are used for, and how you can refuse or delete them.
Cookies are small text files that store small pieces of information. They are placed on your device when a website loads in your browser. Some are needed for a website to work at all, such as keeping a shopping basket together. Others count visits, so that Bitsaga can see which pages are worth writing.
How Bitsaga uses cookies
Bitsaga runs two websites and they do not use the same cookies.
bitsaga.be, this website, is a set of static pages and it stores nothing at all on your device. Visits are counted by Matomo, the visitor statistics software that Bitsaga hosts on its own server at analytics.bitsaga.be, and it is set to run without cookies. Your visit is not sent to Google, to an advertising network or to any other third party, and Bitsaga does not sell or share it. There are no advertising cookies on this website.
shop.bitsaga.be, the Bitsaga webshop, runs on WordPress and WooCommerce. It needs cookies to keep your basket and your order together, and it also uses Google Analytics, which places cookies that Google can read.
Some pages on bitsaga.be embed videos through youtube-nocookie.com. Nothing is stored until you start a video. From that moment Google may store data on your device under its own policy, which Bitsaga has no access to and no control over.
Cookies on bitsaga.be
There are none. Matomo does its counting on the Bitsaga server and is set to place no cookie at all, so there is nothing stored on your device and nothing for you to accept or refuse. That is also why this website shows you no cookie banner. The one exception is the video players described above, and only from the moment you start a video.
Cookies on shop.bitsaga.be
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| wp_woocommerce_session | WooCommerce. Keeps your basket and your checkout details attached to your browser. The shop cannot take an order without it. | 2 days |
| woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart | WooCommerce. Tell the shop pages that the contents of your basket have changed. | Until you close the browser |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics, loaded by the WooCommerce Google Analytics plugin. Counts shop visits and which products are viewed and bought. Google can read these. | 13 months |
| wordpress_logged_in | WordPress. Only set for someone who signs in to the shop, which in practice is Bitsaga. | Until you sign out |
Refusing or deleting cookies
To stop Matomo counting your visits to bitsaga.be, use the Bitsaga analytics opt-out page. It takes one click and it needs no account. The refusal itself is then remembered by a single cookie whose only content is that you said no.
Every browser can also block or delete cookies itself. Listed below are the support pages of the major browsers:
If you are using any other web browser, please visit your browser's official support documents. Note that blocking the WooCommerce cookies stops the shop basket from working.
